Farmers Trust and Savings Bank Announce Eric Schable, Commercial Loan Officer, has earned his Certificate from Iowa Bankers Association Commercial Lending School

Spencer, IA  - October 2022-  Eric Schable, Commercial Loan Officer, successfully completed the 2022 Iowa Bankers Association’s Commercial Lending School held October 3-7 in Ankeny.

The school is an intense one-week program sponsored by the Iowa Bankers Association. The purpose of the IBA Commercial Lending School is to prepare commercial lenders who have not been exposed to formal commercial lending education or lenders who want to broaden their commercial lending knowledge to serve effectively and profitably as commercial loan officers. This is accomplished by developing a better understanding of the economy and how it affects the lending decision; developing an understanding of how a business is structured and how it competes; develop an understanding of the role of company’s management and how to analyze and evaluate that management; develop a thorough understanding and application of basic and advanced analytical techniques; and develop an understanding of relationship banking to meet and maintain multiple customer financial needs.

Eric commented, “It was a great experience full of engaging and insightful instructors with lots of interaction and hands-on learning. One of the highlights included case study analysis where we learned ways to improve our listening, communication, and critical thinking skills which ultimately, helps us become better problem solvers. I am excited to take what I have learned and apply it in ways that bring value to our customers.”

“The purpose behind the IBA School is to enhance the skills of our community bankers,” said Kent Nelson, Executive Vice President. “The true beneficiaries will be our consumers and businesses in the communities we serve.”

Schable is a native of Ida Grove, Iowa. He attended Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, IA, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance and banking with an emphasis in math/economics. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family - wife Jessica and their 2 children Aiden and Xander, traveling, exercising, and wood working.
